The staff at Brookdale Gardens Tarzana treats the residents with kindness and respect. It's a smaller community where residents are treated more as individuals than they are at larger places we've looked at. Probably one of the most important things is that the dining is excellent. They have a chef who caters meals toward the residents' likes and is also a very kind person. Basically it's a place where we feel our mother is treated with kindness all around.... Read more

I toured this community. The staff seemed knowledgeable in what was offered. The layout of the apartments wasn't quite what we were looking for. It seems to be a facility for much older folks also, so not the best fit for my loved one.

Our first impression of Brookdale was that it completely changed our idea on what assisted living looked like. It has a very homey atmosphere, it did not feel like a "facility" or "nursing home." It is bright clean, modern and very welcoming. We just so happened to stumble upon this community after others that we were recommended and we liked the smallness of it, it is closer in location and the staff turnover rate is very low. It was a great find.

We are beyond excited to have our mother at The Gardens. The facility is clean and fully renovated. The staff is extremely friendly, well prepared and organized. Making the transition was a breeze. My mother felt so welcomed. We hope to be a member of the community for many, many years!
I distinctly remember the first conversation I had with [name removed] of Brookdale Gardens of Tarzana. I was in a panic. I explained to [name removed] that we were no longer able to properly care for my mother, [name removed], 88 years old, and I didn't know what to do. The thought of dropping my mother off at a "nursing home" seemed sad and cruel, but she quickly explained to me why BGT was not a nursing home. She very quickly talked me off the ledge and gave me a very detailed and accurate description of BGT that made me realize I wasn't alone and she was there to help, so I made arrangements for a tour for the next day. I had already toured 5-6 other facilities and while they were just okay, I wasn't feeling at peace with any of them. When I got to BGT and met [name removed], she immediately put me at ease and gave me a complete tour of the facility. She then took the time to answer all of my many questions, not only about Brookdale, but also about the complete process of transitioning my mother to assisted living. She asked about my mother's favorite food and her hobbies and many other questions about who my mother is. This al helped tremendously. [name removed] was able to answer EVERY question I had accurately and thoughtfully, as well as give me so much more information that I didn't know or had thought about. She did this all with kindness and understanding. [Name removed] suggested that I bring my mother over for a tour so I followed that advice. She arranged for Chef [name removed] to prepare my mother's favorite Italian meal, eggplant parmesan, as well as for her to have lunch with several ambassadors. This was a tremendous success and went a very long way towards putting my mother's mind at ease. . . as well as my own. The move in process was fairly painless. [Name removed] and the rest of the staff helped us with all the information we needed as well as all the information we didn't know we needed. Mom has now been living at Brookdale for about 6 weeks and the transition has been very smooth in every way. She's made friends there and has been enjoying some of the activities. She's told me on many occasions, "Everyone's so nice here. They take good care of me." That's all I need to hear.

From what we can see the community is kept clean, our loved one is happy there and she is being well taken care of. She really likes the food, which is important. In the last couple of months they have allowed more activities, they are doing the best they can to keep the residents busy.

no pendant, rooms are only studios, no good outdoor space, no ramp to get into the building, no roll up sinks, small older building with no where to walk outside, no outdoor dining, food the same as others, no caregivers to go on outings, would not give me the their admissions agreement, did not see any caregivers while I was there, just spoke to the supervisor

Brookdale South Tarzana was a very nice and clean community. It is a smaller community and everything seemed to be well organized and run very smoothly. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We chose another community based on my parents being able to transition into memory care.

I have no complaints about the care my mother has been receiving at this community. The housekeeping does a great job at keeping her bedroom nicely maintained as well as the rest of the building. The staff have been very friendly and are always attentive to her needs. I overall have been very pleased with everything this place has offered her and would highly recommend it.

Trust me I've done the research for you and Brookdale South is one of the good places. I am grateful to Matan for being so wonderful with my father and helping me through the process. I spoke with the clients and they actually liked the place and were so happy. We had visited one place where the residents told us to run! I love that Brookdale South has wide, bright hallways, has the feel of a small community, a restaurant open all day where they can choose their food from a menu, the location and the staff. The staff has consistently been kind to both of us and always remember my name. My father has always been very independent and proud, I never thought he would say anything positive and the miracle is that he has not said anything negative about the place. He likes the staff so much. Matan is incredible, smart and very helpful. I cried in her office and she created a safe place for that. I am grateful for her guidance. Just talk to her and you will be taken care of.

I just wish that the food was better, but that is how it is at every place. I think that the staff members are very helpful and they are genuinely concerned about my welfare. I feel very comfortable here.

This was one of the places we considered when we were looking for options. We liked it. I really liked the food here it was very good. I liked the open dining room, and that there were no set times to eat. The people were nice, but it was not in a very convenient location for us.

I stopped by on Sat. Really nice public spaces. A one bedroom there might work if I could work more on the price but there is not one available. Unfortunately my mom can't have any kind of dementia diagnosis.

We're very happy there! The care is good, the support is good but it's costly. I didn't find anything around that could provided an acceptable level of care for this cost. It's been wonderful. The only issue is if they have a fall or they need additional care it's very very expensive and those cost creep up.

The transition to move here was just so smooth compared to what I experienced elsewhere. When we brought her in I told them exactly the situation and they were absolutely wonderful to her, there was no difficulty at all. But she refused to see the doctor here, he was not very professional. He would just barge in on her at anytime without a nurse, very unprofessional. The nurse there said she was trying to find another doctor that would come in house but was having a hard time. She just loved the caregivers, they were just wonderful to her and would tell her what medications she needed and when she was getting low and then order them for her.
