I had an amazing tour experience with Brookdale North Scottsdale. The facility is slightly bigger and that was the only drawback for us. My loved one is losing her vision and I thought a bigger facility would make it harder for her to maneuver around. The staff were all amazing and very responsive. It seemed like a great facility.
I had a great tour experience with Brookdale North Scottsdale. [name removed] who showed me around was amazing and so friendly. the facility is a nice size and it was also one of the only ones I walked into and saw the residents out and about socializing and I liked that. The location was just a bit too far from me.

The head administrator showed us a room and there was an odor. We signed up and went back and the odor was still there and they blamed it on us. We tried to move him and they were notified and then they finally were truthful and told us the odor was because it was an old building. The response time from the nurses was very slow. If residents do not eat in the dining room they are fined and those add up fast. The staff were condescending towards my father and he was very unhappy. We were fined for the whole next month after my dad had passed away for medications and things like that. I wish that we would have never put my dad in this facility.

Response from Brookdale North Scottsdale
May 20, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. Our management team has reviewed these concerns and we wish to assure you the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
The sales cycle is very misleading. Beware of hearing every answer you want to hear when in reality things are different. Specifically and most concerning, it's regarding the caregiving. You're told there will be a personal care plan designed for your loved one's needs, and they'll staff to that level of care. Of course you'll pay extra if that's beyond what they generally provide. They also say you'll have a personal relationship with the caregiver and a team of people looing over and taking care of your loved one. In reality, you tell them everything you need, they develop a custom care plan, and then they don't staff to meet that care plan. They just use their normal people and tell you they're fully staffed. For the entire floor, there's only 1 med tech and 1 caregiver. If your loved one needs special care services and attention, their life will be at risk because Brookdale simply can't/won't provide extra care even though they tell you they will. And then they charge you for the extra services they're not delivering. You the family member need to be in charge and be the quarterback for your loved one. You can't rely on anyone in the facility to be in charge of anything. Especially if you don't live in the are and can't be there every day, it's a nonstarter. I do not recommend them.

We toured during Covid, which made it difficult no matter where you went. I liked the location. It was very close to us. I was not as crazy about the apartments - I wanted a small kitchen, but theirs had a refrigerator that was almost the size of a microwave. It was too small. But if you’re never in the kitchen doing stuff, it’s perfectly fine. It just depends on your needs and preferences. This one was a little pricier too. But they did a good job with the tour itself. They were accommodating, and they did the best they could with it under the circumstances.
I was very impressed with Brookdale North Scottsdale. The biggest difference between them and where we ended up was a difference in cost. At the time, we were trying to be a little more conservative in balancing the time we felt she had left vs. cost. Our tour was quick, but I felt the facility was very nice, with multiple dining rooms, and the resident rooms were very nice. They had a library and lots of other amenities and activities, which is great. But based on how my loved one was at the last facility, I knew she probably wouldn't be taking advantage of all those things.
I'm extremely happy with everything. From the friendliness of the staff to the additional interview process. Anytime I visit the staff know me by name and know who I'm there to visit. My mother is very happy here and she says everyone is nice. She has no complaints about the community. I'm very pleased, and relived about the community taking care of my mother. This has taken a lot off my shoulders. I highly recommend the community.

We chose Brookdale North Scottsdale because it was in her price range and she got a nicer discount and her apartment is a very generous size. The staff have been very good with communication since we are not able to go inside the facility. It has been hard because of everything that has gone on this year but I would recommend them to others looking.

Our contact was very knowledgeable, yet when we arrived, there was no one in the lobby to greet us our to provide security from unwanted guests. Had to walk around to offices to get someone's attention. Staff seemed friendly, there was a slight odor in hallway on upper floor.Had lunch, Jeff had fish and chips which he said were good. I had a turkey sandwich, bread dried out. Apartments small, microwave only in rooms. Residency seemed to be assisted living; all residents seen had walkers or wheelchairs. No real interaction between residents, many areas had dual purpose. Lobby is changed into "party area" and library duals as plant potting.

Brookdale North Scottsdale has been a beautiful, delightful, active community for my father for 21/2 years. My father has felt loved, appreciated, respected and safe during this time. We all enjoy the daily, weekly and monthly activities. The staff is fun, positive, attentive, and helpful. The Director, [names removed] have always been approachable and listened to our questions or concerns. We highly recommend this home for your loved ones.

Prior to signing, the staff was very helpful and informative. They understood that the cost of memory care was high and were willing to work with us on move in date(s) and other financial options. They were patient with us as we moved in and decorated the room for mom. The nursing staff was attentive and caring in her final days, They also integrated and worked well with Hospice of the Valley staff, and so we have no qualms in recommending Brookdale. Just be patient with all of the paperwork that needs to be completed beforehand.
