Great Staff!

Just recently placed my mother in law here in September of 2020 and we have had nothing but superb care and amazing communication from the Executive Director who gave us her personal cell phone to call her if we needed anything. My sister called the executive director on a Saturday with a few extra questions and she picked up and we had a great conversation with her. We have experienced nothing but kindness and my mother in law has received the best care. We especially love the nurses here who are very attentive to my mother in law who can be a little persnickety. Kudos to the Director of Nursing, [name removed] as well! We did have some issues with my mother in law falling at the house, but once we moved her into Paul House, she's had no falls and has been doing well. They even placed a mat by her bed in case she does fall, bur fingers crossed, no falls!... Read more

Disappointed

One day after leg surgery which necessitated elevation of the leg & only partial weight bearing — — there was no recliner type chair or ottoman on which to put her leg on & very little help in getting to the bathroom. Tiny cups for water — no pitchers.

One of the worst

Do not put your loved ones at this facility. My mom was neglected , had water withheld for two days”ice machine broken”. The staff were frustrated and made her wait to be bathed and long wait times and frustration for bathroom help. They tried to make her go to bed early to not deal with her. She ended up taking a fall due to their negligence forced her to stand and hold on to metal pole when she told them she couldn’t. They don’t care about the patients, only seem to care when family is present. I guarantee none of the staff would put their own families here! Man in charge (name removed]) has zero manners and little empathy or compassion.! Food always cold or hard! Coffe cold! This place won’t even get one point on one star. Shame on you! One star is giving to much credit. You won’t get one point on one star from my family.

Horrible eperience, think twice before coming here

A close relative of mine was here recently and she was extremely unhappy with the care she received. Her first night there she had an accident on herself and was left for an extended period of time and nobody came to check on her or clean her up. She was left in the room alone crying for help. The staff at this facility never got her up and walking with physical therapy so she was completely bedridden the whole time she was there. Then her Medicare ran out and they just sent her home in horrible condition, mentally and physically. When she went in she was able to walk and take care of her basic needs, now she is bedridden needing 24 hour care. She was in a different nursing facility prior to her stay at Paul's House and it was a much better experience. I highly recommend doing research before sending a loved one here. I can almost guarantee you can find somewhere better for your loved one.

DON'T GO HERE!

I am a social worker. An elderly (93 y/o) client was moved to Paul House (which changed from St. Paul to plain "Paul" at the turn of the year when the Lutherans sold it to a private firm). When she was there she fell and fractured her hip, was taken to hospital and returned. The Paul Home is trying to collect $50,000 from her for her extended stay following the injury, which would not have happened were she properly supervised and precautions such as mats placed beside her bed. This is manifestlly unfair and a form of senior financial abuse. We are getting her "lawyered up". In addition, the Home is trying to do all they can to discourage her from leaving and blocking the place she's chosen from taking her by saying she needs a sliding board for transfers, in which case they can't admit her. I've visited her at least eight times and there has never, ever been such a board used for transfers. We let that institution know. Further, the client, who is mentally very sharp, says the place is grossly understaffed and there were zero followup x-rays following her injury until she insisted on it to a visiting nurse practitioner. This is a terrible place and as a social worker of 40+ years experience with elderly, it ranks among the worst I've ever had clients in. Their attempt to take advantage of this client financially is beneath contempt and we will pursue a legal and/or government intervention to remedy.

Pretty Nice Tour of This Community

Our tour of this community was a pretty nice one. From what we saw that community looked well-kept. The staff was kind, and friendly. It was a good experience, and everything went well during our tour. Unfortunately this wasn't the community for my mother in law, and her needs.

Nice staff!!

I was impressed with this community. The rooms were a little small for my uncles needs. The rooms reminded me of a dorm room. They offer daily activities. St. Paul House is an older clean building and the dining room looked nice.

My dad likes it at St. Pauls House!!

St. Pauls House has been a good place for my dad. The home is clean and well taken care of. The food is good and nutritious. They have people come in occasionally to entertain the residents. The staff is nice and very attentive to his needs.

St. Paul's House is a caring place.

My mother was previously at a Sunrise in California so that is my main basis of comparison. St. Paul's is very friendly, very conscientious, and keeps me informed of issues involving my mother. The food is not as good, but it's not bad and she eats just fine. A high percentage of time is spent watching tv or movies, neither of which interest my mother, but I usually visit in the evening and I know that is not a time for planned activities. Overall, I am happy with my choice.

nice place

St Pauls House is a nice place. There are not a lot of social activities but she is 90 and it is what she needs. I have looked at other places that are more expensive. The staff really seems to care here. I am glad we found this place. They are giving her a shower and washing her hair. The meals are good here. Overall things are good at this facility.

we are very happy there - great value!

We are pretty new here at St Paul's House, but thus far it has been a good experience. The people there seem very genuine and caring. I get a feeling that they really care about both the residents and the families. One thing I do think they could do better would be to engage the residents more with social type gatherings. After meals everyone seems to go their own way, and it's not the kind of social interaction I was hoping for. It's not that they are doing anything wrong here, just an area I feel they could use a little improve on, being proactive in this area.

It's really wonderful here.

It's really wonderful here. We are still waiting for a bed in the memory care area, that's the only reason it's a four. I am positive it will go up to a five once we get to the right room. It's clean and everyone is very nice. They are attentive and responsive. We are very happy with it.

Nice place, overall

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for our loved ones. This community is definitely an older building, it has a somewhat musty feel, but it is a comfortable and warm feeling place. The apartments themselves are small, and while I think a single person could be comfortable there I think it would have been too small for a couple. Overall a nice place, but it wasn't a good fit for my loved ones.

Lots of sick people, wonderful rehab

She was here for rehab after the fall and she was happy with things here. There at the nursing home there were a lot of sick people, she has Alzheimers but I guess on the scale she's very high functioning so it wasn't great for her with that but at the time it was fine. The care was excellent, we had no complaints, it was recommended to us by Illinois masonic, the hospital where she was at but its just the state of the residents.
