Tour experience

The rooms at Sunrise Lincoln Park were very small, I do not think we could have fit her bed and dresser in there. It is a shared room and the other person was already all moved in and had taken up a lot of space, so it would not have been very personalized. The residents here seemed like they needed more care than my mother, so I am not sure she would have had many people to interact with. It is a smaller facility and has an Urban feel to it. It is very expensive, they brought the price down but I just did not feel comfortable leaving mom there,

Tour of Sunrise

I toured Sunrise of Lincoln Park, and it was a good tour experience. They were pushing more for assisted living with memory care support, rather than full on memory care - which is what my mom needed. My mom needed a place where she couldn't leave, because her dementia has advanced past the point of her knowing what day or time it is. She would be very vulnerable off campus without an escort. I didn't quite understand how she would be secure here. I also didn't ask the right questions, it was my first time dealing with this. The community we chose was very clean with a well designed program. They broke things down into smaller neighborhoods, which was good for my moms memory. It was a better fit and I have nothing against Sunrise. It's very worth the while to look at, depending on what you're looking for for your loved one.

Horrible Management

We had a terrible experience with my mother. While many of the staff are friendly and kind, the management is horrible, unresponsive, and focused on money not caring for the residents. I think this goes all the way up to the top at sunrise. The executive director didn't even know my mother's name after almost a year. We spoke to staff who told us they were not getting the protective equipment they needed for the pandemic and that they even fired one staff member who spoke up. He was an activity leader and was one of my mother's favorites. Shame on this place

Dining Room - Have and Have-nots??

I have a friend staying here and I think it offers a lot of things to do for someone who needs memory care. It is clean and neat. The staff are kind and caring and the food seems pretty appealing. Only thing I would say needs improvement is the dining experience. The staff needs to take everyone's order at the same time! Bring out all the salads at the same time and then all the entrees at the same time. And deserts at the same time. I think there might be a problem in the kitchen? But I noticed this several times. People are waiting and waiting.. Some people are eating while others are looking on. You need to work on this so that your residents can enjoy this together experience as it should be.

Changes In Our Experience

The community is fine for my mom. The staff are really open and friendly. Initially when she moved into the community she enjoyed it. Now they are working with Hospice to make her comfortable. Everything has been top notch, and they have been phenomenal with my mom.

They wanted to talk about my sister: what does she like, what makes her happy, mess, friendships, etc. I was impressed that they were resident-oriented. They said that concern is fostered by management, top to bottom. Long-term employees help. Spoke with [Removed]

A Good Visit But Not The Right Place

After touring, I found that they were not appropriate for my mom. They are primarily a memory care center and she needed assistance but not that type of care. They are geared more towards Alzheimer or more serious mental care. It was a lock down facility to prevent wandering.

Plus is its sole focus on assisted living. 60 residents. Much smaller feel, quieter than Brookdale. Like care mgt as described, with consistent staffing. PB should respond better to that. Not sure what activities he would engage in but there are options. Therapy provided by contractors; not sure how good it would be (equipment?). Rooms ok but no view; would pb care? Like the location on Clark since it's busy, something to look at. Beautiful deck space in back. Covered parking in back a big plus for visitors.

Read the Fine Print

Don't judge a book by it's cover. The promises made in the glossy brochure and the over-friendliness during scheduled visits mask the reality. This is an expensive nursing home for those who are compliant and obedient. Read the fine print!

I would recommend Sunrise if there is a problem with memory and dementia.

I would recommend Sunrise if there is a problem with memory and dementia. A lot of places will take care of the routine and the bedpans, but they don't really help them live a reasonably happy life. I didn't choose this particular location, because it wasn't convenient for the family to get to.
