Sunrise of Mill Basin

We picked this community because, cost was a big factor, the type of community and where it's located, and the outdoor spaces. There is lack of communication with the nursing staff. The variety of the food can improve and the taste as well.

The Executive Director is a sociopath, I'm convinced. It was a horrible experience for us. I made a complaint, and they retaliated against us, and caused stress in my personal and work life. We made a move to another community for our loved one. They didn't answer the call bell for my loved one. I feel they should be investigated by the state. It felt like a bait and switch, the entire situation. The only time they were friendly was during the signing of paperwork. Once in the community it was totally different. The nurse, Esther was great. There are some staff that are bright shining stars.

I would tell others that they are unique in that they have a little green space in addition to nice views of the pier. The facility has a nostalgic look to it and we really like that. It attracts a lot of birds, so anyone who is a bird watcher like my father will really enjoy the relaxing setting. I would recommend them to other families.

We chose Sunrise of Mill Basin because of the value for the money as well as location. The room sizes at the facility are nice. It is a pleasant atmosphere with pleasant people. I would recommend them to others who are looking.

My friend seems to be very happy here. In fact he made the comment that "this is heaven". We are very pleased with the experience so far. The only issue I have had is since we cannot visit we are not able to do little things for him that we would normally be able. Overall, I would definitely recommend to others looking.

If your loved one is independent then this could be a good facility. But if your loved one is not independent or able to advocate for themselves this is not the place for you. The price was high for the care service provided. (my loved one had Parkinson's)

Sunrise of Mill Basin is a great place and I would recommend it to anybody either for themselves or for their loved ones.

The community cares, and they really make an effort to help and make things better. They have an open mind and are open to feedback. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

Sunrise of Mill Basin is a great community, however it is a little pricey. It felt like you were going on a vacation when you entered the building, it had a very warm feeling to it. We do wish they have more physical therapy for the residents, but they did offer great activities. They had art classes, an outside garden area in the back where you could look over the bay. They have baking clubs, trivia, music trivia, music appreciation and movie nights. They also would have live music performers come in. If you didn't want to participate in the activities there were plenty of quiet areas you could go relax and do something you think is enjoyable. The food at this community was pretty okay, they had two different dining rooms. In the main dining area the food was always great, but on the memory care side, the food was just okay.

We chose this because of the location, it was close to where my mother had lived for over 60 years. It is easy to get to, she likes that she is by the water, and also, she can also see the road back home. I feel so comfortable that my mother is in with this community. They have been isolated since COVID but the staff has done super. My mother is not the most tech-savvy, so the staff members face-time us with her each day since we are not able to visit. She has a studio with a deck and it is perfect size for her. The food is really good, there is a lot of variety. They have a restaurant like menu. They also offer other choices if you do not like what is being served. I would definitely recommend. I cannot tell you how happy I am with Sunrise of Mill Basin.

Sunrise is a beautiful facility, although the occupants have their own rooms the facility still had a nursing home feel to it. The place was very clean and bright, with lots of activities for the occupants. The apartments were quite small yet airy and clean. [Name removed] was extremely accommodating and very informative.

My loved one needs assistance to use the restroom and she would wait over an hour during the day to get some help. They sell you the idea of care managers helping and little to nothing is done. Older folk are easier to contract a UTI and sitting there ever so often crying out for help so long to use the toilet made her hold her urine and made it easier for her to get a UTI. Lovely facility but something needs to be done about management and coordinators. The activities are limited to a group of people, I constantly ask [name removed] to get her involved but they leave her tucked away in her room most times I come to visit. This is not acceptable. I'm sorry to say, this is a beautiful building and staff who appear to be pleasant but that's not enough for my loved one. She needs better care.

This branch only appears to be 5 star. Place looks great, pleasant faces. However, Activities Director Staff is unorganized, especially some activities for seniors. Every time I'm there a family member is complaining. They are not consistent, they'll fix an issue and it goes right back to the same issue after some time has passed and your family suffers in the end. You are better off at another location, the overprice is not worth it for your loved ones. Try Sheepshead Bay or another location.

My loved one is happy and pleased some days. One time they were in the bathroom and needed help. They rand the bell over and over and no one came to help. They were on the toilet for about an hour. That upset me terribly because I was calling her and the nurses station and no one answered. I was not too impressed.

I toured this community for good care. We toured and liked the staff who were caring and comforting. The menu looked appealing and they offer a nice list of activities that are offered. We liked that this community and would recommend that other families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

My father toured this nice community. It appeared to be clean and the staff was very science and able to answer the questions that we had on the care that is given here. The menu of meals was appealing. this location we further than what we wanted. Other families might find this to be a great community for a loved one.

I thought this community was rather large and a little overwhelming for what my loved one would need. It would not be as easy for her to navigate through the building and to remember where things where. Other than that the staff where very polite and helpful during our tour. It was just not the right fir for my sibling in the end decision.

Sunrise of Mill Basin really caught my attention they had a clean community. The rooms had good space and the setup of everything was good. The staff and my tour guide were courteous. I was not offered a complimentary meal but, from what i saw the meals sounded good and healthy.

Sunrise of Mill Basin is a ray of sunshine, for us all. The facility is clean, lovely to look at, wonderful views, very peaceful. All of the people, residents and staff are so friendly. It's a pleasure to visit. We've only been here for 2 weeks, but so far, everyone has been so helpful, in making my friend, feel secure and welcome. The staff has been working so hard to make this an easy transition, they must all be commended.
