A great place to eat!

Dinner service at the Admiral at the Lake has successfully made it through the pandemic, staff shortages, and inflation that plague us all. Meals are nutritional and appetizing, and always include meat, fish and vegetarian offerings, with a variety of sides and a fresh salad bar. Examples of recent dinner offerings include rich vegetable enchiladas, expertly prepared skate wing, fork-tender pork chops smothered in onions, and barbecued baby back ribs. A more extensive brunch buffet is offered on Sundays and holidays. Our CS managers are the key drivers in making our meals pleasant. They have a level of commitment and work ethic that is outstanding. Also adding to our dining experience is that many residents have a warm and friendly relationship with the managers and staff.... The Admiral at the Lake

I have been a resident at The Admiral at the Lake for nearly three years. Arriving weeks before the pandemic, it was difficult to meet other residents, activities were canceled and meals delivered to the rooms. Management did their best to keep residents involved and interested. When the quarantine subsided, The Admiral displayed their reputation as one of the best CCRC communities in the city. Meals being a major activity in a resident's day, the Admiral's culinary services excelled. My experience having clients living in retirement facilities, The Admiral provides the best services, delicious nutritionally sound meals, interesting lectures, creative art classes, exercise facilities, pool. The staff is helpful with anything needed and the Admiral van is available for medical visits, grocery store and other outside entertainment. The Admiral is worth a tour and a meeting with the marketing department.

I t’s Even Better Than I Thought

I have lived in the neighborhood where the admiral is located for 38 years. The idea of staying in the same location was very appealing. Several neighbors made the move before I did. Overtime, these friends shared their experiences and invited me for meals at their new home. Their Insights were invaluable and only strengthened my desire to move in. When circumstances aligned for this move to happen, I contacted sales for a meeting, tour of units, et al. I was showing a unit which would work perfectly for me as a single person. I then went to work on listing my real estate and divesting a lifetime of material possessions. My home sold quickly. I found wonderful help for moving and now have been here two months. The lived experience is even better than I expected. The staff, to a person are helpful and courteous. The food is excellent! Activities, special interest groups etc. etc. around here. I could not be happier in my new digs and future security. I am a happy man.

Inspiring, Inviting, Engaged

My parents are new residents at the Admiral on the Lake. They moved in early December from Palatine. The friendliness and engagement of the community has been incredible. They are happy and active and I truly feel their quality of life has gone up! Which is the best that I can hope for for the two people who are so important to my son and I.

A Caring Environment

Our mom has lived in Skilled Nursing at The Admiral for 5 years. As she declines, it is more important than ever that the care she receives is compassionate and attentive. Staff at The Admiral at the Lake make every effort to maintain a strong relationship with us so that any concerns about our mom's care are addressed quickly. Best of all, even through Covid, staffing has remained consistent, which has provided us with a strong comfort level regarding our mom's care. This is particularly important because all of us live out of state. I cannot comment on Independent Living at The Admiral, but my perception is that this is a very happy and welcoming community.

Our New Home

We moved to Chicago to be close to our daughter and new grandson. The Admiral at the Lake was recommended to us be individuals who worked in the senior care facility who felt it had the best staff. When we visited the Admiral, it felt more welcoming than other similar facilities we visited. Once we moved in, we found that the residents are very friendly and staff truly is terrific. There are a wide variety of special interest groups in which to become involved. Visit the Admiral, share a meal in the Waterfront Restaurant and perhaps spend an evening in one of the guest rooms. I believe you’ll agree this feels like home.

THe best place to be

The Admiral is the perfect place to be as I grow older. I am aging along with some wonderful friends I have met here - and I'm constantly meeting interesting people. There are plenty of activities and learning opportunities inside The Admiral - while outside I have Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan just across the street.. And as the inevitable aches and pains start building up, it is comforting to know that help is right here in the building.with wonderful healthcare and phylical therapy professionals.

A wonderful surprise

I came to the Admiral because I had to! My good friend that shared a house with me had to move and I was forced to move!! So, the Admiral and I didn’t start out under the best of circumstances!! I picked a lovely 2 bedroom apartment on a low floor overlooking our garden and seating area. Two friends already lived here and that was really nice. The BEST surprise was the congeniality of all the residents, which remains true to this day. I DO NOT regret a single minute living here!! Everyone embraced my arrival, and I have since been able to make many more good friends!!

Wonderful place

I feel extremely lucky to be a part of this community. During COVID, administration was superb in managing our safety. I truly don't think I could have survived the pandemic if I had not been here. We were the first senior facility to receive the vaccine. The residents have a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds and I've made a wealth of meaningful and fulfilling friendships. I'm in the chorus (we need sopranoes!), on several committees and am leaving on an Admiral sponsored one day trip this week. There are frequent outings available, the dining is superb, the facilities excellent and administration is the best. Nothing bad to say after 4 years here.

A lifestyle choice superbly and timely made.

My husband and I were among the very first residents of the new Admiral building. We have been here, most happily, for >9 years. We are fortunate to be healthy, mobile and active, and able to be deeply engaged in the vast riches that the community and the city of Chicago offer. I'm so glad we moved here relatively young and long, long before need. We called it the last best gift we've given to our children. Now we call it the best gift we've given to ourselves. Vibrant, diverse community. An embarrassment of riches in activity choices. A beautiful location.

The Best of the Best

My husband and I have been residents for 8 years and have enjoyed living here in a beautiful community of neighbors from all walks of life and experience. Everyone is friendly and supportive, both residents and staff. We loved our apartment the minute we saw it on the 10th floor with windows to the floor and a fantastic view of the lake. It takes only about 10 minutes to walk to the lake and our grandchildren have played on the beach in the summer and our pool in the winter. But the friendly atmosphere is the best - you will feel it the minute you walk thru the door,

IT IS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE

When we moved to the Admiral we were 79 and still active. However my wife had been ill and I could see she was not the same person. The first five years we were fine in independent living and then she developed bronchial disease and eventually went on oxygen and had to go to assisted living in the Admiral. It was wonderful having everything under one roof. She went from AL to skilled nursing and I was able to be with her every day. I have had many surgeries and all my PT has been right here. Living at the Admiral was a gift to our children.

A great place to live!

My husband and I have lived at the Admiral at the Lake since 2013. We are in the independent living part of the building, but we moved here to have the protection of higher levels of care if necessary later on. We have met so many wonderful people, the activities are numerous and varied, and we couldn’t be happier. Plus, no cooking necessary!

Could be the best years of of a life!

You may not think it's possible, but honestly, living at the Admiral means (a)you're never lonely (unless you choose to be) and (b) if you need anything, you've got it! There are unending activities--both active (like ping pong and croquet and billiards) and inactive (bridge, chess, Scrabble, Mah Jong) all resident-run and directed, that await you here. Yet, if you prefer solitude, nobody will bother you. Are you a writer? We have a magazine. An artist? We have resident--and outsider-- exhibits.A swimmer? We have a pool--and lots of exercise options. Musical? Join our choir(or kazoo band!)and attend symphonies, operas, ballets. Theater buff? Not only do we attend, we perform them! Movie fan? We have our own inhouse theater!? Trips? Programs? Downtown at your doorstep, practically. If you want it and we ain't got it---you can start it! Good food, good people, good things to do--worth every penny!

Moving to the Admiral at the Lake was one of the best decisions of my life.

It was a big step moving from New Jersey to Chicago after living in our house for 42 years, but it has added so much to our lives moving to the Admiral at the Lake. I consider it a stimulating university of ideas and experiences in a caring, friendly community. Good food and coffee, too. So many activities. And if you need care, the staff in the Harbors are so dedicated. They gave my husband so much compassionate care in the same Admiral building so I could be with him in his final months.
