Response from Avalon Memory Care - Royal Circle
September 7, 2017Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We just celebrated the 20th year anniversary of our Director being an Avalon team member. With this continuity as well as our other multi-year staff members in this home environment we are afforded the ability to provide your loved one the best quality of life. Please let us know if you need anything as the future presents itself. Take Care.
my brother was able to tour this community. He was not happy due to to the odor. He found that other residents were not active and seemed not to have anything to keep them active and that is one thing that we really needed for our mom to stay alert and active. The food seemed to be appealing. The community was not a good choice for care here. Families might take a tour to consider the care that is received here.

Response from Avalon Memory Care - Royal Circle
January 16, 2017It sounds like the functioning level of the residents at this location did not seem to align with the functioning level of your mom at this point in time. If in fact there was an odor it would be because one of the devastating affects of this disease is incontinence. Ruby keeps a very clean home and has for twenty years when my father hired her. Unfortunately when handling incontinence issues there will be an odor and this is how our staff knows when to appropriately handle this"reverting back to childhood" that this disease causes. I hope you had an opportunity to visit some of our higher functioning locations. When one calls in looking for proper placement for their loved one we try to tour the location that will be along the same functioning level as one's own loved one. Feel free to reach back out if you have not visited one of these above referenced locations. I wish you and your brother the very best.
I placed my 86 year old legally blind and nearly deaf stepfather in this home based on the recommendation of a hospital social worker. We were fresh off of deplorable treatment at a well known memory care facility in Mesquite. Although he had severe dementia with psychosis and paranoia., he not only thrived at Avalon, he began to eat, gain weight and became fond of many of the staff. Although there were verbal and physical outbursts directed at the staff at times, these outbursts were handled with kindness, professionalism and a real acceptance that, unfortunately for some residents, this is the course of their disease. Any service we needed, we got, including a mobile dentist to have new dentures made and shoes hand measured and fit. Due to his vison and hearing loss, the staff made the time to spend one on one time with him. He was a resident for over 18 months until his death on Hospice and we experienced outstanding communication and care by the staff under the direction of a strong and capable manager. My only recommendation is to decrease the amount of furniture (over-sized primarily) in the living area. Seems to be a lot of unused seating and would be easier for the staff to navigate wheelchairs and walkers. Thanks for the opportunity to provide this review.

Response from Avalon Memory Care - Royal Circle
December 15, 2014Thank you for your review. I am truly amazed how many places out there that are Alzheimer's Certified will kick out or not accept a resident that experiences some of the behaviors associated with this disease. We thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to care for your loved one. I will look into the furniture issue you brought up.......FYI
I've been real pleased so far. The only thing I've been a little concerned about is that the furniture is a little old and worn. I feel real good about her care. They are all very friendly. The food is pretty good, she is eating pretty well. They are able to continue to care for her even if she runs out of money. There is a gentleman that bathes the residents and I think that can be a little uncomfortable for some of the female residents.

Response from Avalon Memory Care - Royal Circle
May 9, 2014Thank you so much for your review. I will look into which furniture items are getting close to needing to be replaced. As one can imagine there is a tremendous amount of wear and tear on our furnishings more so than at one's own home. I will also let our manager of 16 years, Ruby, know that she received a marvelous review for the care that she and her staff provides. Incidentally, we would never a have a male caregiver bathe any of our ladies if there was the least amount of issue as far as one of our female residents being uncomfortable. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Take care.
I toured this home along with 2 other Avalon Homes in the nearby area. My wife and I were referred by a couple in our Sunday School class. Their mother has been at Avalon for over 3 years, and they have not had anything but positive things to say. We knew this day would come that we would need to place my mom. Matt with Avalon spoke with me at length before we actually met to tour. During our conversation, he really honed into where my mom was at in the disease process. He toured us in the 3 residential care homes that he thought would be the best fit for mom. At each home, we were greeted with smiles and it just felt like home. What was most impressive was watching the staff interacting with the folks there. There was no desk for staff to be perched behind. The staff were very tuned into the residents. It was also interesting to learn that much of the staff had been there for a long time. That really spoke to me and my wife. You don't see that often. You could just tell that the staff really loved the residents there. They each had their rooms decorated with their own belongings. At all 3 homes, I had the chance to talk to other family and they all had really kind and helpful things to say. Matt has been very helpful in making this difficult decision a little bit easier.

April 29, 2014Thank you for your review. It is nice to hear such accolades from someone that has just visited some of our locations. The best word of mouth is from someone that has had a wonderful experience with Avalon as the couple in your Sunday School class had with their mother being at Avalon.
