Brookdale San Jose has a very friendly environment. The residents are friendly and the staff are friendly. Just a very pleasant environment. Like all healthcare environments, they are short staffed for caregivers. There have been times when there just wasn't enough staff/caregivers, but they are trying to remedy it. It would also be nice to have more nursing oversight. Overall I would recommend Brookdale to others.... Read more

We picked this community because, we liked the look and feel of community. The sales person was great, and the front end people were excellent. The care was not what was proposed. They were short staffed, and could not deliver what we expected. There is a huge staffing issue. My loved one has waited, a long period of time on the weekends for someone to show up to attend to them. The manager who runs assisted living were fairly new. Paperwork would take weeks, to get back and they don't respond promptly, because perhaps they are short staffed. They are very good people but staffing is a concern . I would not recommend this community for assited living.

November 4, 2022We appreciate you taking the time to visit and share your feedback. We are committed to quality service and care and will review your feedback with our management team.
The move in process was not smooth. They kept giving me more paperwork to fill out (after I had already paid, but dad couldn't move in until it was completed) and then dad had to have pre admissions testing completed that we weren't told about upfront. So I ended up paying for several days that he wasn't even there or able to be there. The staff was nice, but they seemed understaffed. I had requested a lift assistance device and they told me they would get it for dad, no problem. I had to ask about the status of it several times after that. One day, I was frustrated and asked them to follow up on it. The staff told me they would call and look into it. She came back in a few minutes later with the device. I was frustrated and wondered how long it had actually sat there and could have been used if they had just taken the time to bring it to his room. The food was good. The facility is kept pretty clean. His room is clean. We brought in some over the counter medicine with a Dr's note for dad, and it took me asking several times before they started giving it to him. I understand there's a process, but we're talking weeks and I feel that was way too long and really no reason for it. I'm not sure if I would recommend this facility to others.

In comparison price wise it was good, but it was clear to us that they were short staffed. The facility is beautiful with the nice gardening area - our loved one has a balcony that overlooks it. The people there on our loved ones floor were very sweet, and they would immediately engage with her. Meals seemed well balanced at first and good, but everything was so covid related –when they had a lockdown the meals had to be served in the room so the quality and service went down, and house keeping was a little inconsistent.

I toured Brookdale San Jose and I liked it, the tour was a 5 out of 5. They had a lot of nice things that seemed geared more towards assisted and independent living. On the 2nd and 3rd look, the rooms in memory care were very small and [community name removed] has a huge room that my mom stays in. So the smaller room did not appeal to me, that was the main reason we didn't choose Brookdale. I really liked that Brookdale sent me a lot of emails about caring for someone with dementia, how to choose a facility, and how to take care of the caregiver. They provided a lot of information and that impressed me; but the facility just wasn't a good fit for us.
We had a video tour at Brookdale San Jose. It seemed nice, but not as nice as the place we chose.

Overall the facility is wonderful and beautiful. We chose Brookdale San Jose in the beginning because of the resort type of appearance and living, it is very comfortable. The convenient location of the facility was an important factor in our decision as well. The residents get a menu to choose from and the meals are very good. My mother is not walking as much anymore and in a wheelchair and she is right down the hall from the cafeteria, every time they have to come get her for meals it is an extra charge of $10 which we feel is a lot based on where she is located. I would definitely recommend them to others looking.

I did not like this community. I did not have a good feeling for this community and I knew that this would not be the right place.
We love Brookdale San Jose. The people who live there have a tendency to take care of each other. They look out for one another and see that they get out and do things, which I love to see. The staff has always been extremely helpful at fixing things. They're very prompt with any requests. I love the apartment. It is spacious and nice, and has plenty of room for my loved one to move around with his walker. And his particular apartment has a beautiful view out the sliding glass windows, which he really enjoys.

Everyone is friendly at this community and concerned for my loved ones well being here. They have activities like bowling, movies, work outs, happy hour, buses that take them on adventures in the area on wed., games like bingo and other games, arts and crafts and more for the residents to do to have a good time in the community. There are a lot of activities for them to pick from.

[Name removed] was fabulous during the tour and speaking us about Brookdale San Jose. The apartment was nice. [Name removed] was willing to update a little bit more before my loved one moved in. He was also able to work with us on the price of the apartment. The only negative is we had possession of the apartment for two weeks; however, my loved one never was able to move in. Brookdale is wanting more money, even though we didn't move in.

Brookdale San Jose is a wonderful place to live! Great location - close to shopping centers, grocery and drug stores. Friendly and helpful staff. Residents are friendly - usually eager to help. The dining room offers many selections of food - you get spoiled! If you are in Independent Living and your health is going downhill, there are Assisted Living and Memory Care - in the same building. For 3 1/2 years I have really enjoyed walking to the lake right behind us - seeing the birds and ducks and geese fly in and out - and perhaps walk the trail around the lake - with families and bicyclists.
As soon as you walked in there's always someone at the front desk to greet you. You can always ask staff for help no matter how busy they are. Every occasion they decorate it beautifully. They always smile and care the residents more than their family. Overall it is an excellent place to stay and work. Great community.
Facility and management are great. For the residents, this is indeed a home far from home.
The residents they are so friendly. Even the workers they are friendly too. The place I really like it. Beautiful.
I like everyone. People are very good. Love to live here.
I am very happy here. Met lots of fine people. Enjoy the help.
Recently and after many times of good and great service another wonderful experience when an emergency suddenly happened. Can't imagine going alone when something happens. Many opportunities to be helpful and with such good humor and encouragement. Thank You, all the staff the rallies!
I love living at the San Jose community. The staff is kind and loving.
The place is kept neat and clean. [Name removed] is very considerate of our needs. The food could be improved but I have not lost weight.
