They did a very through job at getting to know my mom and stepdad and identify what their needs were before they moved in. Because of that, I feel their needs are now being well met, which gives me a lot of confidence and comfort knowing they're being well taken care of. The facility is awesome. I was really impressed by how much technology and safeguards they have in place that we did not experience with another home. For instance, they have a device they put between the mattress and box spring to monitor breathing, heartrate, getting up and down in the night, etc. They also have an infrared monitor in the room that can tell if somebody is on the floor or bent over for a prolonged amount of time. And we got to see that in action. It registered my mom when she was bending over for a while unpacking, and the staff came to check on her to make sure she was okay.

They encouraged her to be active and move her extremities. She was well fed and well taken care of. No nursing home is perfect and things sometimes get missed. But I am so glad I chose The Villages for my mother. She was happy and smiled a lot. She got a lot of attention from the great staff, the activities director and the social worker. Dementia is never ever fun and watching your parent decline is one of the worst things in life. My mothers dementia is the heartbreak of my life. The only saving grace was having her in a facility that was beautiful, that treated her well----where she could live out her days among those who could care for her better than I. She was close, I could always visit and she was well taken care of. What more can I ask for?

During this 9 weeks it was decided that Mom and Dad would not be able to remain in their home of 50+ years and after extensive research Westchester Village was selected for their Assisted Living accommodations. We moved Dad in and Mom moved to their Skilled Nursing to complete her rehab but the falls and her illness won that battle. With Dad in Assisted Living, regulations prevented Mom from joining him for hospice. Rather than have her somewhere that he couldn't visit, Westchester Village made their on-premise apartment available for hospice which allowed Dad to spend as much time as possible with Mom at the end as well as providing extra space for my rather large family as we were also trying to provide comfort and support to Mom, Dad, and each other.
